& summer 2012 concludes...

This semester was one to be remembered. I've never used anything so technologically advanced for school before. I'm not a fan of blogger in all honesty. But I made it through alive and more knowledgeable.

time for elders

I visited my grandparents who have been together for over fifty-years. They spoke about different stories of "back in the day" and "the good old days". I frequently visit them weekly but it was a nice change to look at our conversations from a blank mind and an open ear.

Stress Technique

I chose to try the time-management stress technique.
By being able to measure out what you need done. Along with putting a realistic time frame and goal for it to be completed, is a good way to manage stress. I believe that is one of the best ways to over come stress. By planning ample time to do a good job on a task or project is key, rather than rushing through it.
Personally I make lists of things that I need to complete, but I never set time frames to do them. So, normally I end up knowing what I need to do, but rarely finish them in a timely matter. I then continue to procrastinate.
I need to include time estimations along with my tasks that I need t complete in order to accomplish these tasks without stressing over time, or the quality of the finished product.

*UPDATE* I actually have began the process of scheduling out things I need to do daily and things that are less important that I should save for my free time. I have been feeling less crunched for time also !

Six Words that define myself.

Kids off drugs...

If I had children I would definitely have a talk with them about drugs and the dangers of them. My method of doing so I've listed as the following as what I would do, and wouldn't do.

Good methods :
- Explaining the effects of drugs and that it harms and permanently alters your mind.
- Explaining addiction and how it could only take 'one time' to be physically or mentally addicted.
- Explain that although it may cause a temporary happiness, it increases the chances of developing depression, which in turn, could make you potentially miserable later on.
- Tell my experiences with people who I know, and who have died from them.
- Explain how marijuana is a gate-way drug and although people beg to differ- it does affect your brain. It affects the part of your brain that deals with your emotions and can cause depression and not a physical dependency but a mental one.
- Explain addictions and different forms, such as mental and physical.
 - Letting them know that no matter what they've done they can still talk to me and if they are using drugs to let me know.
- Telling them it's always okay to ask for help.

Bad Methods :
- Harassing them by drug testing them and insisting they're high.
- Raiding their room.
- Removing their door.
- Harassing their friends and drug testing them as well, yes I know it's crazy, but it's happened to me before..

Love Language

I chose to do the blog assignment of the five love languages (http://5lovelanguages.com)

My love language results were:

2Words of Affirmation
11Quality Time
6Receiving Gifts
9Acts of Service
2Physical Touch

And my explaination was :
" The highest score indicates your primary love language (the highest score is 12). It’s not uncommon to have two high scores, although one language does have a slight edge for most people. That just means two languages are important to you.
The lower scores indicate those languages you seldom use to communicate love and which probably don’t affect you very much on an emotional level."

The information that I already knew about myself had to have been most definetly the lowest scores being "words of affirmation" and "physical touch". I personally lack any need or desire for reasurrance when it comes to love towards another individual. Along with that I also do not like to be physically touched and I found that was completely accurate in that aspect.

I'm surprised to find that I have a high interest in acts of service for me. I was not aware of that, but when I think about it in more depth, based on the questions asked I understand and agree with these results.

I think this is an interesting learning activity. It not only justifies someone in a way that may be conscious but as well in a subconcious way as well. That could be a real eye opener, I enjoyed this assignment.

Film Review- Food INC.

The film we watched was called Food Inc. It was a documentary on the food industry that exposed the food industry in a light that we try our hardest not to. Everyone knows the food industry is a lot less sanitary, for lack of a better word, than we would like to believe. Subconsciously, we try to block the little we know about how discusting the food industry really is.

But when watching the film, it made that nightmare a more credible one. Seeing first hand what it looks like to have our, soon-to-be hamburgers, walking around in their own, mixed with all the others, feces. It is one thing to hear about that, but seeing in presently visually made it become more life like and unappealing.

There was nothing that I disagreed with. All the evidence provided seemed to be back with a visual and credible verification, so I believe the facts that were presented. It is just a very shocking film to view as a whole, in general. Having my mom as a body builder and professional fitness trainer, I eat a healthy and balanced diet regularly so I can't say I feel it neccisary to change my eating patterns.

I would deffinetly recommend this to a friend who may be struggling with eating and living a healthy lifestyle as a way in hopes to create an epiphany for that individual. I would probably not thoroughy explain the film and would more have them taken by surprise for a harder and longer lasting impression.
